The Hague Worldhouse

Purpose
The Hague Wordl House is a collaborative project of Stek (Voor Stad en Kerk) and VluchtenlingenWerk Zuidvleugel in The Hague. Targeted at undocumented migrants in The Hague, the World House is an information and advisory centre, with the aim of empowering them to make well-informed decisions. To achieve this, the Centre serves as a place where undocumented migrants - whom we call our Visitors - can obtain correct and sufficient information about their basic rights. Through interaction, the Centre is also a melting pot of individuals and families in similar situation. There are an estimated 10,000 to 20,000 European and non European undocumented migrants in The Hague.

In the Living Room of the World House our visitors can interact with and meet others people, and receive assistance with legal, medical and other types of matters.

Our visitors are empowered through participation in various activities, and by providing them adequate and relevant information during our consultation hours and theme meetings.

The Hague World House works in cooperation with partner organizations and makes adequate use of existing services, and networks established for and by undocumented immigrants.

Audience
Our project targets undocumented migrants living in The Hague, in particular those who do not have a network. They are men, women, and children ‘without papers’ (without legal residence permit) who live, work and study in The Hague.

Their ethnic, cultural, religious, and social backgrounds are diverse. Specifically, our visitors are:

-       Denied/rejected asylum-seekers (separated, asylum-seeking children or unaccompanied minor asylum seekers)
-       Stateless persons
-       Irregular workers
-       Victims of human trafficking
-       Immigrant spouses of failed marriages
-       Third-country nationals (non-EU nationals)
